Radio Adelaide's The Legacy Hour is a one hour program that goes to air each Monday from 3:00PM until 4:00PM. In 2014 they conducted interviews with Bev Bellinger regarding the Bangka Island Massacre and the Sole Survivor and with Ian W Shaw (author of On Radji Beach) regarding his book The Ghosts of Roebuck Bay. Each year, on the Sunday closest to the 16th February, a memorial service is held in memory of the 22 Australian nurses that were machine gunned by the Japanese forces in Bangka Strait on the 16th February, 1942. Click the links above to read more about Bangka Island and the massacre.
May Mills OBE (1890-1984)
May Mills was a member of the S.A. Women’s Amateur Sports Council and served as President for seven years. She also served as President of the Australian Women’s Cricket Council and the S.A. Women’s Cricket Association. May helped to finance the Memorial Playing Fields.

Women’s Australian Auxiliary Air Force
The Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF) was the first and largest of the World War II Australian Women's Services and was formed in 1941 after considerable lobbying by women keen to serve and the Chief of Air Staff who wanted to release male personnel serving in Australia for service overseas.
